Addressing The Reality for Black Trans People
Black Trans people are disproportionally marginalized in our society in a myriad of ways. Our café will not only be a place to gather and learn from each-other, but a safe place for Black Trans New Yorkers to gain professional training + employment in the hospitality and non-profit industries.
Why a Café?
NYC lacks third spaces that center the joy and care of Black LGBT+ adults. Opening a café that doubles as a community center will enable us to expand to create a sustainable stream of revenue while also being a third space for this demographic Uptown.
We All Deserve A Soft Place To Land
The Cloud Room’s programming will include: workshops around food justice, visual and performing arts, and organizing; book and media clubs; political education resources; resources regarding substance abuse and harm reduction; digital literacy courses and more!
Food Justice
In addition to selling food and beverages, we plan to use the café as a space to provide meals for those in need in NYC. We will partner with community fridges and mutual aid groups to share our space, make these meals, and to distribute them.
